Join us for a big band jazz experience in an intimate setting. Under the direction of Fred Forney, Mesa Community College and Dave Schmidt, Glendale Community College, the Orchestra will feature 17 of the most talented Jazz students from Maricopa Community Colleges.
A special attraction this year is saxophonist and big band arranger, Bob Mintzer. Bob will be performing in the orchestra on an array of original compositions and arrangements. Bob Mintzer is well known for his work with the Yellowjackets and such bands as the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, Jaco Pastorius, Tito Puente, and Mongo Santamaria. This Grammy nominated artist, has diversification as his hallmark, not only is he an amazing performer, he is also world renowned as a composer and arranger.
An added feature is the guest conductor, Steve Owen, Director of Jazz Students at the University of Oregon. Steve is an award winning teacher and founder of the Oregon Jazz Celebration.
