Steve Owen is associate professor of music and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon as well as a nationally known composer, arranger, soloist, clinician and educator. He is a graduate of North Texas State University and the University of Northern Colorado.
Steve teaches courses in jazz theory, jazz improvisation, jazz arranging and jazz pedagogy, and directs the Oregon Jazz Ensemble (the first of four large jazz ensembles at Oregon). A respected educator with an abundance of enthusiasm for music and teaching, Steve is much sough after as a soloist and clinician throughout the country. Steve won the Ersted Award for distinguished teaching and is the founder of the Oregon jazz Celebration, a four-day annual workshop at the University of Oregon.
A composer and arranger of national prominence, his works have been performed by Bobby McFerrin, Dave Weckl, Anne Marie Moss, as well as the nationŐs finest college and professional jazz ensembles.
