October 14, 1996 [Studio 1151]
All 4 student members of the SCC Psychology team plus faculty Bernie Combs meet at Studio 1151 headquarters to plan the premiere of NRU at the November League of Innovation conference in Phoenix. Studio executives are astounded at the enthusiasm of the team, as they are long past their semester commitment. Using a digital camera and a audio software, they are able to capture the last team images and voices needed for the introdcution of the program. A few more bugs are discussed with Studio technicians.

October 4, 1996 [Studio 1151]
A demo CD-ROM of the first NRY prototype is sent to team Scottsdale.

September 6, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Work progresses on the Labyrinth Web project with developement of some shockwave tools for creating a labyrinth drawing tutorial and construction set, all to reside in the web environment.

June 25, 1996 [Studio 1151]
The Studio technicians continue to polish up the 3D scenes and programming for NRU and expect a testable prototype by the end of July. Meanwhile, the SMCC Labyrinth team has expanded some of the collaborations through contacts made via web searches and are developing the interactive content sessions. In a recent photo shoot, here two members are deep in creative thought... The word is out that both teams will have a showing of their products at the November 1996 League of Innovation technology conference, in Phoenix.

May 31, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Studio 1151 is into summer production schedule for its features, slated to be released to test audiences later in July. For the SCC Psychology project, we present these sneak preview snapshots of their "Negative Reinforcement University" (all GIF images, ~50-100 k each):

The opening is the NRU Main Building. Once inside, the students will be in the entrance to NRU Classes. They will have an online "NRU Gizmo", a Newton-like device for taking notes and getting help. Through the glass doors are the three main parts of the program (Lecture, Lab, Testing). In the lecture hall, the students is first treated to a dry boring leecture (as played by Bernie Combs). They are suddenly whisked away to a dungeon where they must learn a certain sequence of tasks that will allow them to escape, all of which must be done before the water rises in the dungeon cell. After experiencing the dungeon, students proceed to the lab where they can view different video examples of negative reinforcement and practice answering questions. Finally, they can check their knowledge in the testing room (in development still).

The SMCC Labyrinth Team is continuing their planning, script writing, and location scouting into the month of June. We have an classified sneak preview of a prototype for their web design. They have plans for location shooting of a labyrinth laid out in the Sonoran desert (brave they are to do this in June!) as well as some QuickTime VR scenes of the future labyrinth garden site at their college.

May 9, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "Final Week: 'What an awesome class. If I could do it again, I would.' We had a presentation today of the product as far as it has come. So far it looks excellent and has extreme potential to become more professional than any of us had expected. Even though the class has ended, all of us in the class have volunteered to continue working over the summer to help Alan digitize video and images. Who knows, I might make another journal entry..."

The South Mountain team met with Studio execs today to present their new storyboards for the Labyrinth project and the Studio was so pleased that they are extending the contract into mid-June for final production. Activities will likley include on location filming of Labyrinths in Arizona... Meanwhile, the Studio has enlisted the aid of top 3D modeler Kurt Leinbach for creating the virtual "Negative Reinforcement University". The SCC team has been busy filming their video segments.

May 2, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "What a project. We are all impressed with how far it has come and can't wait to see a final product. Taking in mind that we only have a week and a half left, we all know that we will need to put some time in this summer to complete the project and we are all intereseted in helping out (and I am sure Alan can find things for us to do). <smile> See you next week."

April 25, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "This week was fun. We started out on Tuesday at MCLI District Office checking out what Alan Levine had created to date. So far, so good. The program is looking great, especially the graphics! On Thursday we were able to do some filming of some scenes that are critical to the program. Now all we need to do is digitize them and incorporate them into the program. The semester is almost over and all of us are still excited!"

April 18, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "The program is coming along and looking good. Although, this week our meeting agenda became a bit mixed up we still managed through it. Next Tuesday we are going to have a meeting at District Office to reevaluate the situationa and decide where we stand. We still need to do quite a bit of digitizing of movies and stills before we are finished with that portion of the project. Then we still need time to work with the programmers to make sure everything comes out right."

April 11, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "As the original deadline creeps closer and closer the realization of meeting that deadline becomes less possible. However, with the incredible potential this program is already showing, I can already see that the final product will be amazing. I would like to thank Alan Levine, Karen McNalley, Bernie Combs and all the others at MCLI for all of their support in this project. I have to admit, this is one of the most interesting classes I have ever had along with the best overall learning experience I have been involved in."

April 4, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "This week was a fun twist on how we handled our meetings. We finally split into groups. On Thursday, while others met at SCC, Ted Jones and I met at MCLI District Office to begin digitizing and rendering some of the images that are esential to the project. We were also able to take a sneak peak at what Alan Levine has started developing in Macromedia Director. He is currently working on the dungeon, and it is looking good!"

March 28, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "Time is getting short. But we are still up to meet the challenge. We have already began with collection images via digital, video, and still cameras. Within the next couple weeks we need to have the image collection completed and begin with manipulating them on screen to include into the program. So far an application shell is in the making, now all we need is more time to get the project finished!"

March 21, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "Now that we are back and rested after a long Spring Break we are ready to start collecting images and video to include into the application. So far we have developed several scripts that are ready to act out, now the only hard part is timing and planning. As soon as we begin collecting these clips and pictures we will be able to submit them to Alan and the rest of the crew at the MCLI district office to begin developing the NRU application."

March 18, 1996 [Project SMCC Labyrinth]
Athena Marie Myring reports, "We have decided to make an internet site with five to six basic components."

March 7, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "This week we were able to finalize all of our ideas to include into the lab and testing portion of the program. Now as individuals we will be able to come up with ideas for filming and capturing images to include into the application. We also were able to take a field trip down to district office to see the collection of toys Alan and the rest of them have to play with down at MCLI. We also had a chance to see the resources that we had available to us. The group is all still very excited about the project and are even thinking of getting together over Spring Break. Otherwise, the next scheduled meeting is not until March 19 (time's getting short, eh?)."

Feburary 29, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "This week I think we have made our biggest leaps to success so far. Four major things we accomplished this week: Project Timeline, Budget Outline, Complete Storyboard, and Job Coordination. Now we have a better concept of what kind of schedule we need to stick to and what it is going to take to finish on time. The storyboard is also nice to have so that the programmers can begin creating the shell of the application. This week we also decided we are going to focus on using Macromedia Director for programming purposes. And let's not foget to thank Alan for bringing more digital toys to the meeting to share with us (see movies from last press release)."

February 29, 1996 [Studio 1151]
The Scottsdale team has blown away the Studio's wildest expectations for their planning and storyboard presentation! David Luce laid out a stuningly detailed Gantt chart with all tasks color coded and scheduled. The Storyboards have been turned over to a programming consultant at the Studio. Take a snreak peak of the action with some small QuickTime movie clips of team members David [754k], Bernie [401k], and Lynda [124k]

Feburary 28, 1996 [Project SMCC Labyrinth]
Athena Marie Myring reports, "Yesterday the four crew members brainstormed and figured out a basic plan to get their project completed. We now have a grasp on our plan."

Feburary 22, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "We are still on schedule. This week we decided on a final flowchart of how the program will work. There will be three major sections to the NRU application: Lecture Hall (definition and concepts), Lab Examples (to learn by experience), and Testing (to see what the student has learned). We will finish the storyboarding by the end of next week. We also need to submit our budget to the MCLI board for review by next week. So far this project has been a lot of fun and all of us are excited to see what the final product will look like!"

Feburary 15, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "This week alot was accomplished: First of all, the SCC Psychology project was approved by the MCLI board to begin conceptualizing. This means that our next step includes storyboarding and content creation. We then immediatly decided on what type of media we would be working with: The Macintosh. Today we started toying with the idea of the NRU (Negative Reinforcement Universtiy) front end concept again. We believe this will turn out to be a very interesting idea to present and so far there seems to be a lot of opportunity. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to tell you some of the storyline."

Feburary 13, 1996 [Project SMCC Labyrinth]
Athena Myring reports, "We the crew of Labyrinth have figured a way to meet with out our schedules getting in the way. The electronic forum!"

February 13, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Karen McNally, Executive Project Coordinator, eagerly signs concept approval for the SCC Psychology team. "They have clearly demonstrated powerful teamwork in brainstorming." Also present, V.P. of Production Alan Levine hinted at some highly interactive scenarios that were going to be developed, saying, "They are on target for storyboarding and soon will be into production. This crew is really clicking."

Feburary 8, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "As one of the students in the group, I think this week was a week of realization for most of us in the class. We realized that this group was not just a normal class that meets, learns from an instructor, and then gets a grade. This is a real production, with real time constraints, and potentially a serious final product. So far the project has been a good experience and a lot of fun, and all of us are excited to see what we end up with. As we have announced earlier, the project is focusing on the topic of Negative Reinforcement. This is a topic that has been known by psychology instructors as an extremely difficult topic to teach because it can be very confusing. By the time this semester is over, the Special Projects Psychology group at SCC hopes to be able to break down this classic wall of confusion. See you next week..."

Feburary 7, 1996 [Project SMCC Labyrinth]
Athena Myring reports, "Well we are here and, we will conquer what needs to be accomplished. We will make a change, and maybe make this world a better place."

January 31, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Meeting the South Mountain team for their first briefing, Vice-President of Production Alan Levine outlines Studio 1151's mission. The team then sat down to use the electronic journals for the first time. Excitement was high as Athena Myring and Liz Warren wrote their entries, and after some scheduling discussion, their were off to explore the Internet (looking for Casper we believe)

Feburary 1, 1996 [Project SCC Psychology]
Derek Cline reports, "Today, February 1st, the group of three students, a professor, and a coordinator, held a meeting at Scottsdale CC to decide the topic of the production. Two hours of brainstorming brought a wide range of topics down to a main focus of Negative Reinforcement. Other topics finalized were meeting agendas, methods of outside class communication, and planning for the Request for Proposal.Next meeting scheduled: Tuesday February 6th, 1996 12:15PM"

January 31, 1996 [Project SMCC Labyrinth]
Athena Myring reports, "We the Labyrinth Crew had our first orientation meeting. Look out world here we come!!!!"

January 25, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Alan Levine, Vice-President of Production at Studio 1151, visits the Scottsdale team to brief them on their project. "This group is truly inspiring" said Levine. "they were already talking about their production two months ago! Energy level is very high." Things got extraordinary in the land of blue digital images...

January 8, 1996 [Studio 1151]
Studio 1151, a major behind-the-scenes player in the Instructional Technology biz, announces two new productions for Spring 1996. A team working with Bernie Combs at Scottsdale Community College will be designing a new media project in the area of Psychology. The second project hails from South Mountain Community College where Liz Warren and students inher Mythology class will be developing an interactive guide for their project-- to build a real Labyrinth garden at the college.

Studio 1151 CEO and industry mogul Naomi Story is extremely excited about this opportunity-- "We've not seen anything like it to date in the business."
