The Authoring Group (TAG) is a product of the 1994 Ocotillo committee on Authoring Languages at the Maricopa Community Colleges. This group spent its first year delving into the issues for authoring, developed pilot projects its second year, and launched Studio 1151 in 1996.

For 1995 and beyond, the group is now facilitated by the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, as its own entity. Who are we? A group of faculty and staff who are interested in or are developing multimedia for instructional purpose. Our events include some meetings, technique-sharing, a developers dialogue day, and production of our Multimedia Developers Handbook.

Much like the 35 million others, we are viewing the Internet with excitement and we will be devoting energy to looking at the World Wide Web as an environment for authoring.

It goes without saying that this area is under construction... no, make that constantly evolving.

• Planning Meeting (9/22/95): Decided this year to update the Developer's Handbook, schedule a Developers Day for the Spring, meet for technique-sharing "Jam Sessions", and to pursue the web as an authoring medium.

• Student Success Conference (10/20/95): Past Authoring committee chairs Bernie Combs (1994) and Donna Rebadow (1995) led a question and answer session about their experiences as faculty and multimedia developers.

• PhotoShop Jam Session (11/23/95): A group met at the Mesa Community College's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to share techniques in using PhotoShop for creating and modifying images. The session was videotaped for later use.

• Developers Handbook Meeting (11/17/95): Decide future course for the Multimedia Developers Handbook, whether to continue to add or to convert the content and structure to the web. We also have to address the issue of copyright as we cannot make copes of the magazine/journal articles we had cited.

• Authoring Pilot: Studio 1151 (Spring 1996): Our pilot project of working with a faculty and 2-5 students to develop a viable peice of instructional technology. Two teams (Bernie Combs, SCC and Liz Warren, SMCC) are working as production teams for "Studio 1151". You can view the online Guidebook as well as follow the progress via the press releases.

• 2nd Annual Developers Day (February 23, 1996, GWCC): Multimedia developers in Maricopa gather and show the "insides" of our projects. To be held at GateWay Community College.
