Participants in this workshop will explore how faculty can make the transition from being graders to becoming assessors of student learning. This workshop demonstrates principles for assessing student learning through classroom-based assignments. Participants will develop scoring rubrics that can be used for grading and for broader assessment purposes.
Dr. Janice Denton Dr. Denton has recently co-authored an article in the Journal of General Education describing her research on assessing student learning and a chapter in Effective Grading by Barbara Walvoord and Virginia Anderson. She has presented a variety of workshops and papers at national assessment meetings, and has worked on classroom-based assessment with faculty at many colleges and universities across the country. She has chaired the Academic Assessment Committee at Raymond Walters College since 1994.
