Disabilities Awareness Dialogue Day
Apr 13, 2007
Scottsdale Community College
Peridot Room
12:30pm - 4:00pm
"Building Relationships: A Shared Responsibility in Accommodating Students with Disabilities" About
Approximately 6% - 9% of students in postsecondary programs report that they have a disability. As the n umber of students with disabilities entering institutions of higher education continues to rise, faculty have expressed interest in learning how to effectively support this population of students. Many faculty members are unaware of the resources available to them which in turn impacts student learning and student success. For students with disabilities to be retained and meet their full potential, instructors must have a clear understanding of the legal issues, student and institutional roles, rights and responsibilities, and the support and accommodations that are not only available but reasonable and appropriate.
