Copyright, Fair Use, and Intellectual Property Dialogue Day
What MCCCD Faculty Need to Know
Feb 8, 2008
Rio Salado Conference Center
9:30am - 2:00pm
The purpose of this workshop is as follows: To create increased knowledge and awareness of the basics of Copyright Law and Fair Use as they relate to the MCCCD academic environment (classroom and online), and to address issues of Intellectual Property of interest to MCCCD faculty.
Many faculty are unclear about Copyright Law and permissible uses of copyrighted materials in their teaching, both in the classroom and online, or the processes required to determine Fair Use and request copyright permissions. Additionally, many faculty have questions about their rights regarding their own Intellectual Property. This workshop will cover the basics of Copyright Law and provide information regarding uses of materials, as well as the copyright permissions process. Additionally, the Intellectual Property rights pertaining to MCCCD faculty will be clarified and discussed.
Participants will be able to accomplish the following:
- Describe the four basic Fair Use factors
- Describe copyright issues in the classroom or in online courses
- Know how to request permissions
