Engaging Students in the Democratic Process: Gearing Up for Fall 2008
Apr 4, 2008
Chandler-Gilbert Community College
SC140
9:00am - 12:00pm
MCCCD has embraced the notion of civic engagement, a mission of educating
students for citizenship. As faculty, we not only want to help students
learn
actively, but also want to help them understand the skills of active
citizenship,
from increasing their awareness of issues and developing skills to gather
meaningful information to exploring ways to take action.
At this dialogue day, facilitators will share practical ways to help
students
become more civically engaged, specifically in Fall 2008. To get a feel for
how civic engagement can be a part of instruction, participants will take
part in whole-group civic engagement activities. Then through collaboration
and individual work, participants will develop activities for their classes
for Fall 2008.
