The Maricopa Community Colleges District, is pleased to offer our learning community an opportunity for professional growth and global engagement. This faculty development lecture series on Latin America is a collaborative effort among Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, MCCCD's Office of International & Intercultural Education, Paradise Valley Community College, Mesa Community College, and
Scottsdale Community College. As a two-day series, it is intended to serve as an introduction to Latin America for MCCCD faculty and to provide content for faculty to use to develop and expand their discipline with a Latin American perspective. It will also better prepare faculty to participate in future faculty development projects and faculty exchanges in the Latin American region and will serve as a catalyst to further develop these opportunities.
Objectives of This Series
- To develop an historical and contemporary awareness of Latin America and its politics, economics and social issues;
- To better understand the distinct cultural identity within Latin America;
- To gain a context for the understanding of circumstances causing conflicts and struggles;
- To acquire an improved understanding of issues related to women and the indigenous peoples of Latin America; and
- To provide content for faculty to use to develop and expand their discipline with a Latin American perspective.
