Objectives
- Define critical thinking in the context of clinical nursing practice.
- Identify barriers to the development of critical thinking in nursing students.
- Design effective clinical teaching strategies for developing critical thinking skills in nursing students.
About the speaker...
Dr. Kathleen Gaberson is Professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing education at Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV. She has over 25 years of teaching experience in diploma, associate degree, baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programs in nursing.
She is a diploma graduate of Presbyterian-University Hospital School of Nursing and she earned a BSN at Carlow College, both in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her Master of Nursing Education and Ph.D. are from the University of Pittsburgh.
She is co-author of two books, Clinical Teaching Strategies in Nursing (Springer Publishing Company, 1999) and Evaluation and Testing in Nursing Education (Springer Publishing Company, 1998), and has written many articles on nursing topics. Kathy lectures and consults extensively at the national, regional, and local levels on teaching and evaluation in nursing.
