Faculty engaging in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning subject
their classroom practices to close analysis in the attempt to design methodologies
that activate and enhance student learning. Carefully integrated assessment
is necessary to evaluate the effect of the new pedagogies and to develop
student understanding at deeper levels.
In this session we will discuss the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
as a way for faculty to make teaching the subject of formal study. We will
then give examples of how faculty from two different disciplines used assessment
as part of the process of redesigning a course. Faculty who have participated
in the Maricopa Institute for Learning will share their work.
