Instructional Goal:
To increase student success rates in developmental courses and, by extension, the retention and graduation rates of the rapidly growing number of underprepared students Maricopa serves.

9:00-9:30: Strand 1: Maricopa Placement Testing and Enrollment Behaviors , Just How Prepared Are They?
Summary statistics about MCCCD students, their placement scores, and their enrollment behaviors
Exploration of the prior preparation of MCCCD students as measured by their placement scores and prior MCCCD course enrollments. All data will be presented at a summary level and is intended to provide context to the developmental skill set issues faculty may be experiencing in the classroom.

10:00-10:30: Strand 2: Strategies for Success in the Classroom: Infusing Technology into ESL and Developmental Classes
This is an overview of the use of technology to assist students to bridge the gap between their current academic skills levels and the desired preparation to be successful in their academic endeavors as they meet their higher education goals.

11:00-11:30: Strand 3: Strategies for Success Outside the Classroom, Successful Use of a Learning Center
Overview and discussion of strategies faculty, campus administration, learning support center personnel, and students can use to optimize learning and success. Topics discussed may include the following: What is the role of a Learning Support Center? Does Learning Assistance make a difference in students' success? What can faculty do to support the student use of the LSC? How critical is faculty support? What services do Learning Support Centers offer and to whom?
