I tied for second palce with Mark Reinders at Gary Rosenzweig's CleverMedia "Win Gary's Stuff" Game. We got Pez dispensers, a copy of Gary's shokcwave games on CD and a lovely and timely guide to Dreamweaver 1.2

Fortunately, Darrel Plant, the winner, soundly trounced Gary in the finals round, and won a copy of Alphamaniz Xtras for his trouble.

Mark Andreson, the Netscape wunderkid and now AOL mogul... seemed more personable than previous years and may have had some help with joke writing...

Mark provided more stats and cases for Yes the Net Is The Greatest Thing Since Peanut Butter. He cited "serial" killer apps (multiple killers??) as e-mail and web (already), Instant Messaging, Online Calendaring, and Auctions as next on the list (he neglected to mentione online stock trading).

These are things that cause people to want to be online.

Trends are

  1. New net devices "most will be utter failures"
  2. Collapse of PC prices
  3. New ways of access (cable, wireless, via electrical lines, new burst technologies

Internet is going up against TV, but he urged us to consider the ways to simplify net and computer access to the level of TV usabbility.

Director Inside Scoops
by Mark Reijnders (mare@peghole.com)
dateline: May 27, 1999 : 11:23

at the sneak peak they showed two Director x features:

1. Javascript inside Director.

With an xtra you can include and execute javaScript code inside Director. I don't see much use for this other than including libraries of pre-cooked JS. But perhaps there are other uses?

2. Irregular shaped MIAWs

Apart from setting the windowtype to a number you can set the windowtype to a (bitmap) castmember. The window then takes the shape of that castmember. Looks very cool, and I certainly have uses for that. The best thing is that it is included in the Dir 7.02 updater. So it (supposedly) works right now!
