Director as a Kiosk

For kiosks, however, most developers do seem to restart the machine periodically... continual operation is, from what I've seen, rare. On the Mac you can put the Projector in the "Startup Items" folder, then poll for the time and at 2am issue a Lingo "restart" command. I first heard of this technique in Director 2.0 days, and would follow it myself if doing a kiosk... costs are low, and it also helps with inadvertent shutdowns.

(Windows-based kiosks do not seem as capable as Macs for continual running, from what I've seen in support. You can set your AUTOEXEC.BAT to automatically start Windows, and designate your Projector as the shell instead of PROGMAN.EXE.)

A simpler solution is to drag your projector icon to the Windows Startup folder, and add the 'win' command to the end of your autoexec.bat. That way Windows will be automatically loaded when the machine boots, and your Projector will be automatically executed as soon as Windows ends loading.
