With QuickTime 3, this problem basically goes away. Not only does
MoviePlayer (and applications which use QuickTime's exporters) always make
"single-fork" movies, but movies don't have to be "self-contained" on
Windows any more. (In other words, you can have movies that just reference
media contained in other movies.)

QT digital movie plays on top of all other sprites (D6) |

None. Accept movies play "direct to stage" (D6). |

With QuickTime 3, movies don't have to be direct-to-stage on Windows any
more. As you imply, this requires Director 6.5 or newer.

6.5 includes Xtras automatically as long as you mark them for inclusion.
However as Zav (I think it was Zav) pointed out if your app crashes on
the Win side the temporary Xtras folder is unremoveable unless the user
knows how to reset its attributes. To make Xplat work as painless as
possible, then, it's best to simply have an Xtras folder which you
distribute with your file for either system.

Long names for external video/audio files work OK. |
| WIN Problem |
Actually I think this is a CD-ROM hybrid format issue. |
| WIN Solution |
Develop project for Win OS using 8.3 CAPS file names. |

I know that Mac CD-ROM burning software (like Toast) supports long file
names on Windows (a.k.a. the "Joliet" ISO-9660 extensions).
