Any QT aware app (including director) can import cd audio tracks and save them as qt movies. This feature does not work with all rom drives. It does work with the apple sony drives that use caddies. It may not work with the newer tray style matsushita drives.
  1. Insert the audio cd in the rom drive.
  2. Select import from the director file menu then set the type to quicktime.
  3. Select the cd audio track you wish to import. The import button will change to "Convert.." when a cd audio track is selected.
  4. Clicking on convert brings up a save dialog with an options button.
  5. Click the options button to set the start time, stop time, sampling rate, and bit rate you wish to use. Best results are achieved using 44k/16 bit samples.
  6. Click save. Quicktime will convert the track to a qt movie and director will import it to the cast.

If your in the mood to buy software check out discToDisk from Optical Media International. It has more robust import (operlapped reads), can save files to a variety of formats including SDII, and has batch capture features.
