I've read every review of MediaBook CD on the list here but decided to shell out $49 for directorDirect in the mean time. Here's my review of directorDirector.

On the first couple of exploration I was not too impressed. Each time I open the CD my sound level is set automatically to level 7 (of 7.) A few of the topic areas are under construction and will be "open" in future issues. The interview of the artist was interesting, but that's not what I was after. Can read that in print.

So I continued to explore.

I ran across some instruction on lists and buttons that would be great for my students. It's effectively presented as screen captures with audio and a moving cursor in a MIAW. Another day, I came upon some fileIO stuff that added to my understanding; again with the lingo accompanied by an audio explanation. The explanation went a little quick, but there were those lists being used again and again. (And I could always play the movie again.) Then I uncovered some MIAW stuff that added to my miaw knowledge. dD was improving.

To close the evening I moved over to "directorDesserts". I played a game of concentration with my Mac. Nothing really new, but hey, this would be great lingo to explore, but no "explanation in a window" was included.

(Now to the best part.) The entire directorDirect is .dir movies, so there is no frustration with projectors. And, there it was, the concentration lingo.

Not that I dove into all of it right away. But there is a lot from which to learn.

The bottom line, dD is a pretty good learning tool for some one on that 2nd or 3rd plateau of Director. In the not too distant future maybe I'll be birthing lots of Director "kids".

Congrats Andy and the gang. I hope issue 2 appears soon.
