What Do Faculty Do with Technology, Anyway? Preparing for Tomorrow’s Technology with Pedagogical Efficacy

Drs. Veronica Diaz and Patricia McGee hold a Preconference Seminar on faculty use of emerging technology in Higher Education at the EDUCAUSE 2007 Southwest Regional Conference, February 2007 in Austin, Texas.

Abstract

Although most institutions support the instructional use of technology, they may not know what emerging technologies exist, how instructional technology is currently being implemented in teaching and learning environments, or how to assist and encourage instructors to use instructional technology to reach the next pedagogical level. As millennials begin to expect the use of emerging technologies and ways of communicating in learning environments, it is critical to provide assistance to faculty to adopt strategies that best meet learners' changing needs and diverse backgrounds. This practical seminar will help institutions determine the current state of their faculty's technology use, illustrate emerging instructional technologies, and provide strategies to help instructional designers and faculty design pedagogically effective activities and applications for the next generation of learning tools and students.
