We welcome presentation proposals for the Southwest Regional Learning Communities Conference in Tempe, Arizona, February 28 and March 1, 2002. In keeping with our theme "Building Communities of Active Learners," we are encouraging teams of presenters to attend and submit proposals for sessions that actively engage the conference participants (see below). The deadline for proposals is January 15, 2002.
We are inviting presenters to speak candidly about what worked and what didn't in the design and implementation of your learning community model. From previous conference feedback, we have learned that the attendees want to know about the nuts & bolts and best practices of how to make a learnning community succeed. Some special areas of emphasis may include:
- service learning
- infusing technology
- marketing, advising, and recruiting
- loading and space considerations (administrative perspective)
- cooperative learning
- assessment
- trouble-shooting for success
- diversity issues
- critical thinking
In addition we are encouraging all presenters to consider bringing at least one student as a co-presenter. We feel that the presence of students will be a valuable addition to the program.
If you are willing to attend the conference and present a session apporximately 75 minutes in length (you may be asked to share this time with other presenters), we ask you to provide the following information. Note that you will also have to register as an attendee of the conference.
