"The FIPP Program has been an exciting opportunity to break new ground in the District for diversity, and I'm glad to be part of it. It has been a wonderful opportunity to return to the classroom and to be able to connect with both Native American Students and non Native students to serve as a role model and educator. FIPP has also given me a greater appreciation for what our Maricopa faculty are all about and their vision for higher education, and how I can assist in that vision."

2003-2004 FIPP Guidelines: Selection and Application Process

College Process for Selecting FIPP Candidates

  1. Each college and District Office will form a Selection Committee under the direction of the College President/Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (VCAA) or their designee(s).

  2. The Selection Committees from each college and the District Office will develop their own selection process and submit it to the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (VCAA) for approval by March 5, 2003. The candidates must meet the criteria for eligibility.

  3. The selection process will be reviewed for its competitive criteria and objectivity by a committee selected from the Faculty Recruitment Commission. The selection process will be approved and returned to the college.

If changes are requested, the process will be sent back by March 10, 2003, to the college president with suggestions. Changes can then be made and the revised process returned to the office of the VCAA by March 21, 2003.

  4. Each applicant will submit the FIPP Application Cover Sheet, a curriculum vitae or resume, and a personal statement of interest to the college President or, if a District Office applicant, to the Office of the VCAA, by April 4, 2003.

  5. Each college and the DO will select a candidate following their pre-approved selection process. Each college and DO is responsible for notifying their candidate of the selection.

  6. Each college and the DO will submit their selected candidate's Application Cover Sheet, curriculum vitae or resume, personal statement of interest, and Learning Contract to the VCAA no later than April 25, 2003. A committee from the Faculty Recruitment Commission will review the paperwork. Any requested changes must be completed and revised documents submitted to the VCAA by May 5, 2003.

  7. 2003-2004 FIPP Faculty Interns will be announced by the Chancellor to the Maricopa community by May 9, 2003.

Application Process for FIPP Candidates

  1. A notice will be sent from the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs' office announcing the opening of the application cycle for 2003 FIPP internships.

  2. Interested individuals will request the FIPP application documents from the President's office of each college or the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs' (VCAA) office.

  3. Interested individuals will identify a faculty member at the selected college who is willing to serve as a Faculty Mentor. A lead FIPP Faculty mentor must be a residential faculty in the same teaching field as the FIPP applicant and, preferably, someone with appointive status. Additional mentors may be invited to participate
NOTE: Applicants from the DO need to ask one of the colleges to accept him/her as an Intern. The applicant must have approval from the President and the appropriate Dean of the college at which they wish to intern before submitting an application. A residential faculty member from that college must be willing to serve as a Faculty Mentor.

  4. Each applicant must submit the FIPP Application Cover Sheet, a curriculum vitae or resume, and a personal statement of interest to the college President or, if a District Office applicant, to the Office of the VCAA, by April 4, 2003.

  5. Each college and the DO will select a candidate following the pre-approved selection process. The selected candidate will be notified by the college or DO.

  6. After the candidate is selected, s/he will need to develop a Learning Contract with input from the Faculty Mentor(s), the appropriate Dean, and the FIPP Coordinator. See Learning Contract form for more information.

  7. By April 25, 2003, each college and the District Office will submit their selected candidate's Application Cover Sheet, curriculum vitae or resume, personal statement of interest, and Learning Contract to the VCAA.

A committee from the Faculty Recruitment Commission will review the paperwork. Any requested changes must be completed and revised documents submitted to the VCAA by May 5, 2003.

  8. 2003-2004 FIPP Faculty Interns will be announced by the Chancellor to the Maricopa community by May 9, 2003.

  9. The FIPP program begins August 18, 2003.
