Application Process: Salary Advancement for Academic Work

Are you taking individual 100-200 level courses?

  1. Complete the application for academic advancement (see myFPG for forms). It is recommended that applicants obtain pre-approval before taking any 100/200 level courses. Describe how this enhances your professional growth. Your description assists your peer review committee in understanding how this makes you a better professional in your field and/or more effective teacher in your work. Complete the application, one application per course, print out the completed application, and sign.

No more than sixteen (16) credit hours of 100/200 level courses will be awarded toward salary advancement over the course of your Maricopa career. Advancement credit will not be approved for 100/200 level coursework taken in one's own department.

Courses or workshops that focus on standard office applications are ineligible for advancement. Non-standard technology applications, computer science, health care, and others will be approved or disapproved based on the rationale given and how these courses relate to and update the faculty member's RFP position.

You must include a course description, proof of course payment, and an explanation as to how the course enhances your professional growth. The explanation should also include the reason why you are pursuing the content through a 100/200 level course rather than a 300/400 or graduate level course.

  2. Contact your FPG advancement representative to review your application. If all is complete and clear your representative can sign for approval.

  3. After your representative has approved and signed, forward the application plus 10 copies (11 total) to the District FPG staff support. This can be sent directly by yourself or by your representative. Keep a copy for your records.

  4. The District FPG staff support verifies the institutional accreditation and places the application on the agenda for the FPG committee review.

  5. The application is then either approved or disapproved. You will be notified by e-mail by FPG District staff support. If approved, notification is sent to Supervisor of Wage and Salary. If disapproved, the applicant will be notified, but may elect to pursue the appeals process.
