Application Process: Salary Advancement for Academic Work
Are you taking individual graduate courses in education or your teaching field? Are you taking individual upper division (300-400) level courses in education or your teaching field?
- Complete the application for academic advancement (see myFPG for forms). Describe how this enhances your professional growth. Your description assists your peer review committee in understanding how this makes you a better professional in your field and/or more effective teacher in your work. Complete the application, one application per course, print out the completed application, and sign.
- Contact your FPG advancement representative to review your application. If all is complete and clear your representative can sign for approval.
- After your representative has approved and signed, forward the application to the District FPG staff support. This can be sent directly by yourself or by your representative. Keep a copy for your records.
- The District FPG staff support verifies the institution accreditation and then submits the verified application to the chair of the advancement sub-committee for review.
- The Chair of the Advancement committee reviews the application for approval relying heavily on your description of how this enhances your Professional Growth. Pending further questions, the Chair may contact you or your campus Faculty Professional Growth Representative.
If either the FGP Representative or the Chair of the Advancement committee is unclear about the related professional growth and further discussion with the applicant continues this viewpoint the application may be referred to the full advancement committee for review.
- The application is then either approved, tabled, or disapproved. You will be notified by e-mail by FPG District staff support. If approved, notification is sent to Supervisor of Wage and Salary. If disapproved, the applicant will be notified, and may elect to pursue the appeals process.

According to RFP A.2.2. "No request for academic credit will be approved for any activity accomplished earlier than two (2) years prior to the submission of the request." If you want credit for the upcoming year, your application must be signed by your Faculty Professional Growth Representative by September 1st, and your transcripts must be must be received by wage and salary supervisor by September 15th. An official grade slip or transcript is required by the Supervisor of Wage and Salary. The earned course grade must be "C" or better in order to be credited toward advancement. A "pass" mark is acceptable if the course is only graded on the pass/fail system.
