Clinics, Conferences, Workshops & SeminarsAttendance at clinics, conferences, workshops & seminars offers a variety of opportunities for learning. In order to allow for the greatest variety of professional growth, the following policy applies to activities sponsored by groups outside Maricopa Colleges. For events sponsored by the Maricopa Community Colleges, see Internally Sponsored Professional Development. What is the clock hour policy?Non-academic advancement is based upon a clock hour equivalency to academic hours. The scale used for clinics, conferences, workshops & seminars is 18 clock hours equals 1 credit hour. It is difficult to clearly distinguish between each of these terms of "clinics, conferences, workshops & seminars". Organizations will define them uniquely based upon their discipline and history. Some of these very programs will also be offered for credit. Use the descriptions provided by the sponsoring organization and provide ample information to help the Faculty Professional Growth committee review your application.
Option A. Since faculty are accountable for six hours per day during the contract period and since faculty regularly fulfill this schedule it is expected that faculty apply the same schedule during a conference day. A full day schedule is anything that begins by 9 AM and ends after noon. A half day schedule is anything that begins by 9 AM and ends by noon. Six hours will be approved for each full day's attendance. Three hours will be approved for each half day's attendance. Online conferences are only credited at maximum of 6 hours per day. Option B. If you attend a particularly time intensive event which you believe warrants more than six hours you may opt to apply for all the hours of conference activity. This might be appropriate for example if you attend a conference that includes a full day's activity plus an evening session. If you choose to use Option B, you must provide a highlighted agenda indicating your involvement for the full day not just for the hours beyond the six hours of accountability. For every four hours of activity you must deduct 15 minutes for breaks and during the course of the day 30 minutes for a lunch break. You must complete the Option B Hours of Completion Summary Form available from the myFPG section of this site. How do I apply?See the specific information for clinics, conferences, workshops & seminars. Notes that the steps differ for external events (sponsored by organizations of outside of the Maricopa Community Colleges) and internal ones (workshops, dialogue days, seminars, conferences sponsored by the Maricopa Community Colleges). |
