Application Process: Salary Advancement for Non-Academic Work
Did you attend or participate in a professional conference or workshop that is in your field or in a related field and you want to apply for salary advancement?
This information applies for conferences and workshops sponsored by organizations external of the Maricopa Community Colleges. For information on Maricopa sponsored activities, see the steps relevant to internal events.
- Complete the application for non-academic advancement (see myFPG for forms). Describe how this activity enhances your professional growth. Your description assists your peer review committee in understanding how this makes you a better professional in your field and/or more effective teacher in your work. Complete the application, (one per activity), print out the completed application, and sign. Indicate the number of clock hours you are applying for. See the options for clock hour policy.

- Determine the appropriate options for counting the hours.
Option A.
Are you accepting the standard allotment of 6 hours full day/3 hours half day for activity? If so, please include the following supporting documentation:
- Copy of brochure or descriptive information from sponsoring organization for the activity
- Name tag or certificate of completion.
Option B.
Are you requesting review of itemized hours for your activity? (see clock hour policy) please include the following supporting documentation:
- Copy of brochure or descriptive information from sponsoring organization for the activity
- Name tag or certificate of completion.
- Marked agenda showing the times and sessions actually attended.
- A completed Hours of Participation Summary (see myFPG for this form).
- Contact your FPG advancement representative to review your application. If you are using the 6 hour or 3 hour clock hour time allotment and all is complete and clear, submit to your campus representative for approval.
- After your representative has signed the application, forward it to the District FPG staff support. This can be sent directly by yourself or by your representative. Keep a copy for your records.
- The District FPG staff submits the application to the chair of the advancement sub-committee for review.
- The chair of the advancement committee reviews the application for approval relying heavily on your description of how this enhances your Professional Growth. Pending further questions, the chair may contact you or the Faculty Professional Growth Representative. If either the Faculty Professional Growth Representative or the chair of advancements is unclear about the related professional growth and further discussion with the applicant continues this viewpoint the application will be referred to the full advancement committee for review.
- The application is then either approved, tabled, or disapproved. You will be notified by e-mail by FPG District staff support. If approved, notification is sent to Supervisor of Wage and Salary. If disapproved, the applicant will be notified, but may elect to pursue the appeals process.
| You have 90 days following the completion of the event to submit your application to your Faculty Professional Growth Representative. You must submit by September 1 for credit for upcoming academic year salary placement.
