FPG Representatives Job Description

All FPG Representatives:

The role of the professional growth representatives is to promote and facilitate professional growth opportunities for the faculty of their college. See also the Frequently Asked Questions about FPG Representatives.

The FPG representative does this by:

  1. Assisting faculty with the FPG opportunities.
  2. Working with faculty from different educational backgrounds.
  3. Giving time and energy to learn about all FPG programs to promote faculty use of the FPG programs to support and promote interest in the FPG's purpose, goals, and objectives.
  4. Disseminating FPG information to the faculty of their campus.
  5. Processing applications in a timely manner, to maintain a schedule that allows time to do this work.

Specific Duties:

  1. Review all applications for completeness and accuracy, returning forms for revising if necessary.
  2. Attend the regularly scheduled meetings of the FPG Committee held at the District Office on the first and third Tuesday of each month during the academic year.
  3. Read the committee minutes for accuracy and be prepared to note changes.
  4. Come ready to discuss common issues at the full FPG meeting.
  5. Come ready to discuss issues that are applicable to your subcommittee.
  6. Review and respond to FPG policy proposals on electronic review board.
  7. Submit proxy to the chair of the committee if you will be absent.
  8. Review applications prior to meeting and come prepared to discuss them.
  9. Keep the faculty on your campus informed of FPG Committee decisions
  10. Host a minimum of one FPG workshop per semester at your campus.
  11. Return calls or emails from your campus faculty in a friendly and timely manner.
  12. Attend FPG training sessions.
  13. Help faculty complete online forms and find FPG information online.
  14. Obtain a working knowledge of the FPG information in the Residential Faculty Policies, Appendix A.
  15. Review and evaluate sub-committee specific proposals (sabbaticals and summer projects).
  16. Provide leadership, training, and team building for the professional growth program.
  17. Evaluate the budgetary impact of decisions and work with sub-committees to develop maximum limits/funding for faculty.
  18. Recommend and vote on a vice-chair who would be responsible for application signing should the committee chair be absent.

FPG Chair, FPG Vice-Chair, and Sub-Committee Vice-Chairs

FPG Chair Specific Duties:
The chair of the FPG Committee may also be a member of the Fees or Advancement Sub-committees.

  1. Fulfills duty of campus representative.
  2. Review (appropriate sub-committee: fees or advancement) applications (that come to the District) for completeness and accuracy, signing forms that are complete and returning forms that need revision.
  3. Lead FPG meetings.
  4. Provide leadership, training and team building.
  5. Attend District Faculty Executive Council (FEC) meetings when necessary - approximately every other month.
  6. Send emails to faculty advising them of important dates and changes.
  7. Send emails to FPG representatives advising them of changes, dates, and needs.
  8. Work with Faculty Developer in MCLI.
  9. Stay current with FPG issues.
  10. Field questions from all representatives.
  11. Work with the FPG chair to develop, communicate, and train FPG representatives and faculty-at-large.
  12. Evaluate the budgetary impact of decisions and work with sub-committees to develop maximum limits/funding for faculty.

FPG Vice Chair Specific Duties:

  1. Fulfill responsibilities as a representative.
  2. Review (appropriate sub-committee: fees or advancement) applications (that come to the District) for completeness and accuracy, signing forms that are complete and returning forms that need revision.
  3. Be available to take the place of the Chair should the occasion arise and fulfill all responsibilities of the Chair.

Sub-committee Chairs:

  1. Fulfills duty of campus representative for their respective sub-committee.
  2. Field questions form sub-committee members.
  3. Review (appropriate sub-committee-fees or advancement) applications (that come to the District) for completeness and accuracy, sending forms that are complete to the FPG Chair and returning forms that need revision.
  4. Lead sub-committee meetings.
  5. Provide leadership, training and team building for the sub-committee..
  6. Send emails to sub-committee representatives advising them of changes, dates, and needs.
  7. Work with Faculty Developer in MCLI.
  8. Stay current with FPG issues.
  9. Field questions from all sub-committee representatives.
  10. Work with the FPG chair and Vice Chair to develop, communicate, and train FPG representatives and faculty-at-large.
  11. Evaluate the budgetary impact of decisions and work with sub-committee to develop maximum limits/funding for faculty.

Subcommittee Vice-Chairs:

  1. Perform the regular duties of the sub-committee chair when the sub-committee chair cannot attend.
