Salary Advancement for Other Professional Experience

This category exists simply because opportunity for professional growth can occur in many forms. This offers faculty a way to ask for consideration of their unique experience. As such it is difficult to say a particular format of presentation is effective for each situation.

As the applicant you need to present your activity in the best possible form. Take care with your proposal and help your colleagues see the growth you propose or have experienced. The activity should show development that provides growth that will improve your teaching or educational leadership skills.

What are the restrictions on other professional experience used for advancement?

Activities occurring within the hours of accountability to MCCCD are ineligible.

What is the clock hour policy?

Non-academic advancement is based upon a clock hour equivalency to academic hours. The scale used for other professional experience is 35 hours of other professional experience equals 1 credit hour.

What else must I do if I have been pre-approved for professional growth for other professional experience?

After you complete your professional experience, you must supply the following:

Within one year of completing the professional experience, submit a final written report to the campus Advancements Representative summarizing the activities and the knowledge and skills gained. Attach supporting documents such as a copy of materials produced, a daily journal or log of activity, official letters from associates participating in or supervising the project, copies of pertinent receipts, or other items verifying accomplishment of objectives.

Submit the original signed and dated report plus 10 copies (11 copies total). Do not copy the support documents unless your representative requests them.

After review, the Faculty Professional Growth Representative will forward the report and copies to the committee for approval. After approval, the final report and application are sent to the Supervisor Wage and Salary.
