What is the Faculty Professional Growth Policy Review Committee?
Purpose: The committee will serve as the policy writing and review body for the Faculty Professional Growth Program (FPG).
Committee Responsibility: Faculty Executive Council (FEC) has charged the FPG Policy Review Committee with:
- monitoring and revising existing policy for the FPG Program;
- recommending FPG changes for inclusion in the Meet and Confer process;
- facilitating communication between FEC, the FPG Committee and the faculty regarding faculty professional growth; and
- reviewing and monitoring the FPG budget expenditure and unexpended funds.
Committee Structure : Members serve a one-year term.
(see members for 2007-2008)
- Two members of the FPG Committee elected by FPG
- Two members of the FEC Council elected by FEC
- One or two members of the faculty at large elected by FEC
- One member recommended by the College Travel Representatives.
- Chair of this committee is selected by FEC
We strongly urge that a minimum of three members from the current committee continue for the coming year.
Committee Meetings: This committee has standing committee meeting dates of the 2nd and 4th Thursday afternoons of the academic year.
Committee Process:
- The committee will respond to issues raised by the FPG Committee, College Travel representatives and FEC regarding inconsistencies, difficulties and new issues as a result of changes.
- The committee will write or revise policy as needed.
- The committee will refer the policy back to the FPG Committee or College Travel Representatives as appropriate and the Faculty at Large for feedback/input.
- Once revised, the committee will bring the policy to FEC for approval.
In group processes differing points of view provide much needed input in discussions of policy. This small group has the opportunity to be very productive while also working for the good of the faculty. Once the policies are drafted, debated and refined, all groups have opportunity for input.
Proposed work areas for 2007/2008:
- Hold a joint FEC/FPG Retreat
- Explore reestablishing the Discussion Board or comparable capability for gathering input from faculty at large
- Establish cycle to survey faculty regarding FPG advancement and sabbaticals, fees and summer projects, and travel
- Conduct first survey in cycle
- Continue to maintain and modify FPG website
- Review impact of revised FPG (Faculty Professional Growth) policies
- Compose and post frequently asked questions for all areas of professional growth (FPG advancement and sabbaticals, fees and summer projects, and travel)
- Continue to address policy issues from FPG, FEC, etc.
- Explore process to establish online advancement application tracking database accessible by faculty
- Identify faculty professional growth areas needed for Meet & Confer (RFP)
- Continue to share professional growth activities with faculty at large
