What is the Faculty Professional Growth Policy Review Committee?

The following is from the Authorizing Document which formed the FPG Steering Committee. This document is also available in Acrobat PDF format:

Proposal: Steering Committee for Professional Growth 2001-2002 Pilot Project

The formation of a committee to coordinate and oversee the process revisions that will be implemented as a result of the MOU on Professional Growth for Meet and Confer 2000-01.

Purpose: The committee will serve as the policy writing & review body for the Professional Growth Guidelines.

  1. The committee will respond to issues raised by the FPG Committee re: inconsistencies, difficulties and new issues as a result of changes.
  2. The committee will then write or revise policy as needed.
  3. The committee will then refer the policy back to FPG Committee for feedback/input.
  4. Once revised, the committee will bring policy to FEC for review.

Rationale: The changes for Professional Growth in the coming year are extensive. This group will work to implement the revisions as smoothly as possible and make the change over as painless as possible for the faculty at large and for FEC & FPG Committee. Process changes include a web site, on-line application, informational pieces, training of the FPG committee members and a full-time clerical support person (pending final meet & confer approval).

This committee will be charge of taking a broad view of what should be done for the greater good of the program, district and faculty at large. It also charges them with the responsibility to deal with the details.

Make-up of committee serving a one-year term.
(see members for 2001-2002)

  • Two members of the FPG Committee elected by FPG
  • Two members of the FEC Council elected by FEC
  • One-Two members of the faculty at large - These names will be voted on by the FEC.
  • Chair of this committee selected by FEC

Support: During the 2001-2002 Marybeth Mason, Interim Director of MCLI has designated the faculty-in-residence position to Linda Larson to implement the proposed changes. Linda is also volunteering to serve/and or chair the Steering committee if this meets with the FEC approval. In addition, both the chair & vice chair of Pro-Grow will be actively involved to work through the details. This group will continue the work of the MOU team from this past year.

This Committee will substitute for the current process* for 2001-2002:
