This is a very nebulous category that offers a wonderful opportunity for faculty but has generated problems for the advancement sub-committee in verifying hours earned. The FPG advancements sub-committee was faced with three very difficult applications during Fall 2001 and asked the FPG Steering Committee to review the existing policy information and to try to improve it.
After considerable discussion the following recommendations were made by the FPG Steering Committee:
- The draft of the new language explains the benefit of having this category but puts the responsibility of showing the development on the applicant to document appropriately. It offers several types of documentation that should be considered depending on the activity itself.
- The steering committee also agreed that a maximum hours awarded per application be set at 6 credit hours or 210 clock hours eligible in one activity.
(This become necessary in direct response to receiving three applications that ask for the equivalent of 25 credit hours to be awarded for one experience.)
- It was recommended at that the completion of the activity that the application be made with in one year.
