Rationale re: Non-Academic Credit for Travel ExperienceIn order to clarify a day of travel the decision was made by the FPG Steering Committee to establish an hour criteria for the policy. The travel day will be defined as 6 hours of professional activity. This parallels the policy for a conference day as 6 hours. The travel experience of 6 hours per day for the 10 consecutive days will provide both the faculty applicant and the committee members reviewing the application a benchmark. The RFP allows one credit, up to a maximum of 12 credit hours, for every 10 consecutive days of travel. It does not define a day in terms of hours. Since faculty by contract are accountable for a 6 hour day during the academic year this parallel seems workable. The question could be raised as to what might happen if one day is short by 1-2 hours, could a longer day be used to balance the day? It is the applicants responsibility to provide the information that helps the committee understand the professional travel experience. Such flexibility should be workable within this definition. |
