about the Bennetts
Janet and Milton Bennett served together in the Peace Corps in Micronesia and, since that time,
they have devoted their careers to developing theory and training methods in intercultural communication. They both completed Ph.D.'s in intercultural relations and organizational communication at the University of Minnesota. Milton created a graduate program in intercultural communication at Portland State University, and Janet created the liberal arts program at Marylhurst College, also in Portland.
In 1986, the Bennetts formed The Intercultural Communication Institute (ICI), a private nonprofit foundation designed to foster an awareness and appreciation of cultural differences in both the international and domestic arenas.
Currently, Janet is the Director of the Individualized Master of Arts in Intercultural Relations Program, a non-residential graduate program for professionals and other non-traditional students. Milton is the Director of Graduate Studies of the same program, which is jointly sponsored by ICI and the McGregor School of Antioch University (Ohio).
