What will teaching (and learning) look like in the coming years?

If you are faculty, how do you envision your field or discipline will change in the next 10 years and how will your teaching evolve with the changes? If you are not faculty, how do you envision your work in supporting effective teaching and learning will evolve?

How can our infrastructures, such as facilities design and college processes, change to meet the evolution and dynamics of teaching (and learning)?

There will be more diversity in delivery methods.
Facilities and college processes must allow for flexibility, interconnectedness, and technology use.

Include all styles and intelligences in your teaching and assessment.
More distance learning possibilities for education.
Need to be more concrete than abstract.
Greater use of technology integrated into learning objectives.
Virtual reality - simulated experience.
Cafeteria style options to the student.
Interactive and experiential - global (international education).
Varied delivery methods - a menu for students to choose from.
Labs with varied hours so students can come as they desire - labs monitored by an instructor.
Courses - open entry, individual pace.
Physical settings, trips to museums, plays, hands-on work will need to be incorporated.
Teaching from home offices: computers/video campuses for projection (between faculty and distance learners).
More modular, mastery-based learning settings.
Use of contracts for more advanced students.
Teach people how to fish (discovery learning).

Hiring/teaching only in our credential field - need to have more freedom.

"Lectureless" lecture - interactive and group communications driven by technology.
Need to change facilities at many locations to incorporate technology (ex: fire fighting, EMT).
Prison-based programs will face the challenge of securing adequate resources (ex: hardware, connections, and softwareÉ).
Programs and facilities need to enhance interconnection with each other not further isolate the instructors/students.
More facilities for handicapped.
Classrooms must change - wiring - portable computers - wireless classrooms - movable dishes - set up for collaboration - inside and outside - movable outside conversational places - departments-councils, etc. must move around - work more together - joint learning communities).
Addressing the needs of adjunct faculty. They need to be and feel welcome into each department. A home away from home.
Faculty to be rewarded to try new things. (i.e., service learning)
Address process of on-line courses - loading - scheduling.
Salary (compensation) adjustments to encourage interdisciplinary work (admin support).
Facilities plan to encourage collaboration between faculty and student.
Issues of scheduling, classroom "ownership", etc. may need to be handled differently than in the past.
