1. A Native American View of Contemporary Ceramic Art

We will produce an exhibit of the work of three contemporary Native American Artists at MCC. The artists will also give a lecture and a demonstration on how they create and conceive of their art. There will be a reception to meet the artists.
The event will happen as a pre-conference event for the National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts. It will be open to students, the community and conference attendees.

2. A Systems Approach To Teaching Digital Design

A widening gap exists between skills needed and skills currently utilized by the workforce. To address current industry needs, the system approach of teaching activities will be developed to assist students in learning digital design. The activities will be built around new Xilinx web-based software 9.2i and the FPGA Spartan-3 development board.

3. Active Engagement of PHY 112 Students through Integration of the Lecture and Laboratory

Mesa Community College (2008-2009)
We will apply the best practices of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to collaboratively develop laboratory-based activities for an integrated lecture/laboratory Physics course. The activities will be based on Physics Education Research, will actively engage students and will explicitly focus on developing the scientific inquiry skills outlined in MCC’s Student Learning Outcomes process.

4. Art and Social Consciousness: Taking the Pedagogy of the Creative Arts into Service Learning Projects

Paradise Valley Community College (2008-2009)
This project will present four lectures given by a working actor/writer, a visual artist/curator and three writers/social activists. The lectures will focus on how the creativity and theatre, visual art and creative writing have been used to effect social change. In addition to presenting a four two-hour lectures, presenters will teach intensive master classes with select theatre, visual art and creative writing students.

5. Clinical Decision Making and Documentation Tool
Karin Sherrill
Mesa Community College (2008-2009)
This project will allow for the research, creation and evaluation of a documentation tool that would allow students to use the steps of the nursing process, SBAR and critical thinking when caring for their patient in a clinical or simulation setting. The tool would also be available in an electronic format for students to complete from home, campus or on a PDA in the clinical setting. This tool could be used as a model for simulation documentation in other allied health programs besides nursing.

6. Corridos with Feedback: the Fiction of Michael Jaime-Becerra

We would like to bring short fiction writer and professor Michael Jaime-Becerra to CGCC to meet and work with students in our Mexican-American History, Literature, Humanities, and Creative Writing Courses. In addition, Mr. Jaime-Becerra will conduct a public fiction reading that will be open to the entire campus and the surrounding communities.

7. Cultural Explorations into Historical and Contemporary Chinese Dance

Glendale Community College (2008-2009)
Cultural Explorations into Historical and Contemporary Chinese Dance is a week long intensive dance project with guest artist Lee Yeong Wen. His residency will focus on the sharing of his knowledge of classic and contemporary Chinese dance and will include the creation of a new contemporary Chinese fan dance. The new dance work will be performed by Physical Graffiti, the Glendale Community College Modern Dance Company.
Lee Yeong Wen is a professional dancer from Singapore who has studied classical chinese dance and contemporary dance. He has performed internationally in Singapore, New York, Europe, and Japan. Most recently Mr. Wen has moved to Tempe, AZ on full scholarship to complete an MFA in Dance.

8. Dance, Space, and Architecture; Stimulation of the Body, Awareness of Design, Emergence of the Structure

Scottsdale Community College (2008-2009)
Students at Scottsdale Community College will explore the architecture of dance and architecture's implications upon the design and structure of the human body. Two choreographers/dancers will guide this process through master classes, lectures, demonstrations, hands-on laboratories, and choreographic works. Students will gain a greater understanding of the differing choreographic processes as it relates to architectural structure and design. Results of this project will inform students in their artistic endeavors as they proceed into professional dance careers.

9. Developing Flash Animation for Physics
Shahin H. Berisha
GateWay Community College (2008-2009)
Limited use of mathematics in teaching physics makes the learning process of physics abstract phenomena very challenging. This project is designed to make that process less difficult. In the absence of mathematical tools, the use of FLASH animations, instead of just static diagrams, pictures and mathematical formulas, will help to understand relatively difficult concepts in physics.

10. Elluminating and Enhancing Online Business Classes

MCC promotes using technology effectively to ensure access to current knowledge, foster human connections, and enhance teaching and learning. My objective for GBS151-Introduction to Business and GBS 233 Business Communications is to incorporate technologies such as. Elluminate, Camtasia, streaming video, and poscasts into the online curriculum. This enhances the course delivery and familiarizes students with technology used in business.
