Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI)
is a German national research centre for Polar and Marine research. The institute comprises laboratories in Bremerhaven and Potsdam, bases in the Arctic and Antarctic, research ships and aircraft.
American Geological Institute (AGI)
a federation of 26 geoscientific and professional organizations, serves its member societies and the geoscience community by coordinating and consolidating the common interests and influence of geoscientists on behalf of the geosciences.
British Natural History Museum
is dedicated to furthering the understanding of the natural world through its unrivalled collections, its world class exhibitions and education, and through its internationally significant programs of scientific research.
AVHRR Land Pathfinder Data Set
are global, multichannel, land surface data derived from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometers (AVHRR) on the NOAA/TIROS operational meteorological satellites (NOAA-7, -9, and -11) which provide a continuous daily and composite data set from July 1981 through the present. These data, when complete, will enable studies of global vegetation and surface characteristics over more than a decade.
Daily Planet
from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois, offers weather maps, satellite images, climate data, and instructional materials related to the study of the earth's atmosphere.
Earth and Environmental Sciences Center (EESC)
at the Pacific Northwest Laboratory (PNL> offers general information about PNL and the EESC, as well as descriptions of research activities and an introductory list of Internet resources related to hydrology.
Earth Resources Laboratory (ERL)
is part of the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at MIT in Cambridge, MA. ERL is primarily concerned with applied geophysics as it relates to tectonophysics, seismology (especially seismic exploration), environmental engineering, and parallel computing.
Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center
is a data management, systems development, and research field center of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Mapping Division. The Center holds the world's largest collection of space and aircraft acquired imagery of the Earth. These holdings include over 2 million images acquired from satellites and over 8 million aerial photographs.
Earth Sciences and Resources Institute
conducts national and international multidisciplinary research related to the earth sciences, including the disciplines of geology, geohydrology, geophysics, and geochemistry; and it provides educational opportunities for advanced degrees in technical and managerial preparation for students working on projects within these and related disciplines.
Environment Canada's Green Lane
provides a wide variety of regional and national environmental information, including the latest regional weather forecasts, satellite photos, maps & radar images; and the complete texts of many of its most popular national publications, including primers designed to assist teachers
Environmental Resources Information Network (ERIN)
is a project of the Australian Department of the Environment and associated agencies with information grouped into Air, Land and Water, Humans and the Environment, Life, Sea, State of the Environment.
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) information from the US Geological Survey
GIS is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information , i.e. data identified according to their locations. Practitioners also regard the total GIS as including operating personnel and the data that go into the system.
Geographic Names Database
from the Peabody Museum of Natural History (Yale University) includes a searchable index of 1,233,933 records corresponding to the labeled features that can be found on the 1:24,000 scale topographic maps of the US Geological Survey. The information is from a data system developed by the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U. S. Board on Geographic Names. The National Geographic Names Data Base is the largest of the GNIS databases, containing records on almost two million geographic feature names in the United States: from populated places, schools, reservoirs, and parks, to streams, valleys, springs, and ridges.
Geological Time Table

Mineral Gallery
presented by Amethyst Galleries, Inc., is a database of mineral descriptions and images for rockhounds, educators, and geology students everywhere. This database includes physical characteristics and common associations, and some of the indexes provide educational material.
Morrison Research Initiative
is a multidisciplinary project funded by the National Park Service and the USGS. The overall goal of the project is to reconstruct the evolution of Late Jurassic environments, habitats, and climates of the extinct Morrison ecosystem in National Park Service units in the Rocky Mountain region.
National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC)
manages environmental data in the fields of solar-terrestrial physics, solid earth geophysics, marine geology and geophysics, paleoclimatology, and glaciology (snow and ice).
