MFI: Program Requirements

Maricopa Faculty Intern Responsibilities

Each Intern will:

• Develop a Learning Contract with the Faculty Mentor, with additional input from the appropriate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
• Adhere to the terms and conditions of the Learning Contract.
• Serve in the program a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 40 hours a week for two semesters, from August 2007 to May 2008.
• Participate in the MFI Orientation.
• Meet with the Faculty Mentor at least once a week for the duration of the internship.
• Participate in all MFI-sponsored professional development opportunities.
• Teach* courses as follows:
  • A minimum of 6 load hours and a maximum of 9 load hours in the fall semester.
  • A minimum of 9 load hours and a maximum of 12 load hours in the spring semester.**
  • No more than two different courses in the fall semester.
  • A variety of courses in their discipline.
  * Interns will not be paid extra to teach the aforementioned course load. Teaching is considered a requirement of the internship.
  ** The number of load hours should be determined based on the Intern's prior teaching experience and ability.
• Attend meetings and events as required.
• Keep a teaching portfolio.
• Complete evaluations as requested regarding the program and professional development activities.
• Complete a status report at the end of the internship (due by May 30, 2008).

Faculty Mentor Responsibilities

A lead Faculty Mentor must be a residential faculty in the same teaching field as the Intern. Mentors will:

• Be willing to share their knowledge, materials, skills, and experience with the Interns.
• Assist in the creation of a Learning Contract.
• Monitor the Learning Contract during the two semesters.
• Participate in the MFI Orientation.
• Provide opportunities for learning for the Interns.
• Observe Interns teach and provide constructive feedback and positive learning suggestions.
• Meet with the Interns at least once a week each semester.
• Attend meetings and events as required.
• Complete evaluations as requested regarding the Interns and the program.
