This is a fun demonstration of classical conditioning which provides vivid and concrete instances that students will remember for a lifetime. The teacher reads a list of words, occasionally squirting water gun blasts at a volunterr so that a specific word comes to predict the water gun blasts. Students will actually observe examples of conditioned and unconditioned stimuli and responses, stimulus discrimination and generalization, extinction, and spontaneous recovery.
