My summer project consisted of looking at the role of a hospital/agency nurse educator. After an in-depth literature review, I participated in three extensive orientation programs at three different facilities noting common principles and practice.

I read three books to enhance my understanding of multiculturalism and discover avenues through which to best infuse it into instruction. I also read a fourth book, “Peer Mentor Companion,” by Marni Saft in preparation to launch a peer mentoring program at GWCC.
4. Increase Professional Knowledge of Polysomography & Evoked Potentials Testing (GateWay Community College)

I researched the Neurodiagnostic fields of Polysomography and Evoked Potentials testing using the internet and resources through ASET, the Professional Organization. I spent time at both a sleep center and in an Evoked Potentials lab to personally see the tests being performed.
5. Automotive Service Technician Training (GateWay Community College)

During this summer project I participated in hands-on automotive training provided by the Ford Motor Company and American Honda to increase my knowledge of current diagnosis and repair techniques in three subject areas: automatic transmissions, engine performance, and air conditioning.

I attended the 2008 National Council of La Raza (NCLR) National Conference held in San Diego, California, July 10 - July 15, 2008.
As Faculty and Chair of the GWCC Counseling Office, one of my primary responsibilities is to offer new courses that help our diverse student population.
8. Drug Information Association Annual Meeting (GateWay Community College)

The DIA annual meeting took place in June 2008 and was focused on drug development continuing education. Specific topics of interest included clinical research regulatory changes as well as accreditation of clinical research educational programs.

I attended the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association from June 11-14, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. I attended presentations on current management strategies for patients that have suffered brain injury.

This summer I spent several weeks at the Arizona Orthopedic Hospptial and Banner Baywood Medical Center studying new advances in Orthopedic Surgery.
