summary

Learning the Spanish language by working through the lessons in the U.S. Institute of Languages Spanish I Visual Link dvd and cd program.

details

I worked through the thirteen lessons in the U.S. Institute of Languages Spanish I Visual Link dvd and cd program. These lessons are as follows: Basic needs; Greetings; Survival Expressions; Grammar; Comprehension; Communication; Locations; Becoming Acquainted; Describing Characteristics; Restaurant; Telephone; Travel; and the Bonus Section that includes months, days of the week, seasons, colors, numbers, and telling time. I did this during the timeline of my summer project.

------------------------------------------------------------
Outcomes: In a paragraph or two describe what worked well. Did you accomplish your objective(s)? Were you able to complete your summer project as written? If not, what did you modify and why? What did not go as well as expected, if anything? Were there any surprises? Note: Use the questions as guides for your outcomes. Do not include detailed list of workshops attended, speakers who presented, or a list of items you have seen, heard, or read.
------------------------------------------------------------
I did not use Rosetta Stone Spanish Level 1 tutorials on cd, but instead used the U.S. Institute of Languages Spanish I Visual Link dvd and cd program upon the recommendation of a colleague who had much success using the Visual Link program. These lessons parallel the objectives that I planned to accomplish using the Rosetta stone Spanish Level I program, and I completed the lessons within the time frame of my summer project. I have had success working through the lessons, but I am not ready for prime time, so please, no quizzes at this point. I plan to review all of the lessons to improve my skills. I found the Visual Link program to be an excellent learning tool.

------------------------------------------------------------
Professional Growth: Your own professional growth is a large part of your project. Your professional growth is important to you, your students, your college, and possibly other colleagues. How did project affect you professionally? What skills did you learn? What environments were you working in and how might your summer project influence your teaching or other responsibilities? Did you gain a different perspective? Was it professionally valuable for you?
------------------------------------------------------------
I am now able to understand and speak Spanish at a basic level. This will help me to communicate more effectively with Spanish speaking students and members of the community. I am motivated to continue my study of Spanish by using the verb module of the Visual Link program that contains over 100 in-depth lessons that teach five major verb tenses as well as direct objects.

------------------------------------------------------------
Dissemination: How will you share this information with your colleagues, department, students, or college?
------------------------------------------------------------
I will be happy to share my experiences working through the Visual Link lessons with my colleagues. Colleagues can get information on the Visual Link program by calling 866-977-2647 or can access information on the web at www.learnspanishtoday.com.
