details |
The 32nd Street Arts Festival project was created to not only increase the amount of fine & perfomring arts programs presented by PVCC, but to also demonstrate to students and community members the role of the creative process and how it applies to each artistic discipline. The main focus of this project was to provide students and community members with access to professional artists in the Phoenix area as a resource for their own development as artists. A secondary goal of the project it that through perfomrances, lectures, presentation and demonstrations, both students and community members would gaine valuable insight into the arts as a profession. How did the project improve, advance, or enhance student learning? Please provide specific examples.
The project was very successful at creating a positive and supportive atmosphere for the arts in the North Valley. Students and community members learned about the role of the creative process and how it is interconnected with the creation of public art. They also were exposed to the joys and hardships that many of the presenting artists faced in carving out a career in the arts. Overall, the festival delivered both a does of reality and a message of confirmation to many students who were thinkging about a career in the arts.
How did you evaluate your project's success? What did it tell you?
The project utilized student feedback forms at all of the festivals events for collecting data, personal responses to each event, suggestions for future events and contact information. These feedback forms confirmed that the North Valley community is hungry for more opportunities to experience live art and also that many people were surprised of the leevel of talent that we have in Phoenix.
What is your plan to share this project with others?
All of the events have been archived by either video or audio tape and are housed in PVCC's library. All of the tapes are available for student and community checkout. Additionally, other data collected from the festival has been analyzed and incorporated into the current festival and fine arts offerings.
What, if anything, will happen in the future with this project?
Data collected from this festival was used to determine the needs and wants of our students and community. These ideas were taken into consideration for the programming of this year's festival. The festival is now an annual event at PVCC and the success of the 2002-2003 festival has assisted in the planning and growth of the current festival.
What, if anything, would you do differently?
We would look at the type of publicity and advertising that was done for the 2002-2003 festival and determine better ways to reach our students and community. Also, we would re-evaluate the type and cost of marketing for the festival. Finally, we would try to offer even more opportunities for interation between the professional artists and students and community.
