summary	This exercise is designed for students to assess "what they know, want to know and learn" about any topic the instructor chooses. The example used is Food Irradiation. (Atkins, fat blockers, etc. could be used)
details	Students are asked to complete the exercise partially in class and then to research the topic online. This could also be given to students ahead of time. 1. Students write down everything they currently know about the assigned topic (irradiation) 2. Students write down what they want to learn about the topic. 3. The last part of the assignment involves research. Using the internet, students search for information from any source: both credible and noncredible. Topics are discussed in detail in class and controversial informaition is addressed. Scientific information about the topic is presented by the instructor. Note!
