summary	This graphic organizer serves as both a frame for and visual reminder of students thinking about a course concept.
details	This graphic organizer is a cognitive aid. It may be reproduced and used by individuals or groups, or by the instructor as an overhead transparency tool. Based on an idea from Richard Paul, this S-E-X-I acronym helps students remember to extend their thinking. This idea can be used conceptually or as a "writing to learn" activity (attached handout) to help students acquire the routine of Stating, Explaining and elaborating, eXemplifying, and Identifying importance and implications. This serves both to promot extendmed thinking and when used as a quicki writing prompt, utilizes writing as a way to clarify and process learning of course concepts. Note!
