This workshop has been designed to present the following competencies:
1. Explain the uses of a course management system.
2. Login to Blackboard using an assigned username and password.
3. Identify the screen components of the Blackboard My Institution page.
4. Navigate within Blackboard using the Course Menu, Course Map, Control Panel, Navigation Path (breadcrumbs), and tabs.
5. Identify and describe the use of the major components of the Course Menu, including Announcements, Course Information, Course Documents, Discussion Board, Staff Information, Assignments, External Links, and Tools.
6. Identify the major components of the Control Panel, including Content Areas, Course Tools, Course Options, User Management, Assessment, and Support.
7. Brainstorm the plan for and organization of your course referring to design principles, resources, and Blackboard functionality.
8. Use the features of the Control Panel.
9. Use Content Areas within the Control Panel to create and upload course content (files, URLs, tests, assignments, and learning units) to Course Information, Course Documents, External Links, and user-created content areas.
10. Use Course Tools within the Control Panel to communicate with students via Announcements, Email, Discussion Board, Staff Information, Tasks, Calendar, Collaboration, and the Digital Drop Box.
11. Use User Management within the Control Panel to list/modify students and manage groups.
12. Use Assessment within the Control Panel to manage student assessment, including use of the Gradebook, the Test, Pool, and Survey Managers, and Course Statistics.
13. Use Course Options within the Control Panel to manage the look and feel of your course website by setting course settings and options.
14. Use Support within the Control Panel to seek out further help and information.
15. Review available resources regarding course cartridges and templates.
