summary

RSS, or Really Simnple Syndication provides an easy way to have any web pages automatically updated with specific content from the Maricopa Learning eXchange.

details

This audio narrated presentation (created with Breeze) provides an overview of the Syndication features of the MLX:
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/mlx/show/ocotillo05/

And here is another one done as a screencast recorded with Windows Media Encoder and saved as a Flash file:

Over the last few years, we have done much publicity to solicit new content for the Maricopa Learning eXchange (MLX). We have built in a number of features to the MLX that deploy RSS, or Really Simple Syndication (and XML published format of information) that allows other Maricopa web sites to create a dynamic window, displayed in their own web site, to a particular subset of MLX content. More on MLX feeds is available at:
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/mlx/feed.php

Once a small amount of HTML is added to a web page, it is able to update itself automatically.

For example, the Center for Teaching and Learning at Estrella Mountain Community College has an updated listing of 3 MLX items submitted by Estrella employees:
http://www.emc.maricopa.edu/ctl/

Chandler-Gilbert's Service Learning site uses an MLX feed to list just MLX items associated with this project:
http://www.cgc.maricopa.edu/service_learning/projects.shtml

Intnerally at MCLI, we are using the MLX to power other web sites, such as the Faculty Professional Summer Growth summer project reports:
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/fpg/projects_ex.php

Reports from Learning Grants:
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/learngrant/gallery.php

and past winners of the Innovation of the Year Program:
http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/innovate/winners.php

In all of these cases, content is "fed" from the MLX to other web sites, and can be tailor designed to match the look and feel of the sites.

We will show you how you can leverage this power of RSS by using a cut and paste service we created called Feed2JS:
