Using the Periodic Table to construct an atom of various elements is a task that beginning biology students are expected to master.
This animation shows an atom of helium. The appropriate number of protons are indicated by "+"'s in the nucleus.
The appropriate number of neutrons are indicated by "0"'s in the nucleus.
The appropriate number of electrons encircling the nucleus are indicated by "-"'s in the nucleus. The two electrons in the first shell are shown circling the nucleus of the atom in continual motion.
