summary |
Business simulation game for CIS students who lack a business background. |
details |
I have a problem with my CIS 235 E-commerce students. The students normally have a good technical background but they usually lack any background in business. Since one of the major factors for E-businesses failing is a bad business model, I needed a quick way to give CIS students experience running a business.
My class is broken into teams of 3 to 4 people. The teams compete against each other for 6 weeks using a business simulator. I found an old Junior Achievement Program called MESE (Management and Economic Simulation Exercise.)
MESE allows you to manipulate Unit Price, Production, Marketing, Capital Investment and Research & Development. These variables will affect Available Cash, Credit Line, Production Cost, Sales, and Profit.
The teams who come in first and second get 10 pts extra credit. My students find this an exciting way to learn basic business relationships and the game takes only 10 minutes per class.
