The materials for the blogshop were created for use at the June 2003 electronic Portfolio Summer Institute (ePSI) at Chandler-Gilbert Communtiy College.
Although strictly not an ePortfolio platform, I tried to make the case that one could do so, and even if not, the tools and the features of blogs might be of interested when looking at other electronic portfolio systems. In addition, this platform for student publishing is a fantastic tool for use as a student project documentation system, or peer review of writing, or an environment to promote student community building that is not contrained by a course management system.
Appropriately, the blogshop was created and delivered in the same medium as the topic- via a weblog. The blogshop includes background and references on weblogs, some questions to consider when planning the design of a weblog, a collection of examples to review, and then a series of 8 mini lessons for hands on introduction to Movable Type (MT).
Workshop particiants were provide accounts on an MCLI server, and learned its components, how to create entries, how to upload images and other media (and how to connect them to their blogs), how to use the comment features, how to update the visual display of the blog via style sheets, how to add original content to the templates, how to use the MT Bookmarklet tool, how to use and implement TrackBac, and how to add RSS news feeds to their blog.
This site is link and feature rich, and we will continue to add new resources as we find them.
