Round Robin: What's of Interest in Digital Audio?all participants
Podcasts from RiocastAngela Ambrosia and John Edward Tynan (Rio Salado)
Angela Ambrosia and John Edward Tynan and will demonstrate Riocast- Rio's podcasting with audio feeds available on Wellness and on Diversity plus the KJJZ radio station podcasting. Angela and her Rio team (Jarred TruschkeÐWeb Designer, John TynanÐWeb Master of KJZZ, Jennifer FreedÐInstructional Designer, and Calvin Wood- Audiovisual Maint Tech/Photo) demonstrated how Rio Salado uses Podcasting for classes, and KJZZ. Rio Salado team illustrated how students can take course work with them by using iPod. The textbook materials are not downloaded on to the iPod just the instruction from the instructor. There are three ways to start using an iPod: Database, script from audio ID3 tags, and Hand codeÐXML. KJZZ uses creative commons licenses which can be used in the classroom for instruction. KJZZ puts up audio everyday. Give Your Classes a Voice!Roger Yohe (Estrella Mountain) Roger discussed The Cone of Learning, by Edgar Dale. The desire is to have students engaged in class. He shared the Horizon Wimba voice direct tool. Wimba is a tool that can be used to hold voice chats and voice discussion boards regularly. It is a great tool for ESL students to use. It provides an opportunity for learners to hear each other. As a learner you can hear other people before you give your response. Under the current technology implemented, there are 13 steps for faculty to use this tool, which makes it a little difficult for faculty to use it. If it were licensed by all of the Blackbaord schools, the integration would be much mroe simple inside Blackboard. Student Life Podcasts at Paradise ValleyIn the Fall of 2005, the Student Life Center at PVCC began a podcasting initiative in an attempt to reach the unengaged student population on campus. In absence of a college radio station, the Student Life Podcast allows students who visit our website to get to know the personalities behind the offices and become more familiar with different student groups on campus. While podcasting may seem "next-gen", it's very easy to produce. This session Mike Ho will cover the basics podcasting and potential implications for student recruitment and retention. After reading about podcasting in the MCLI iforum, Mike became excited to learned about a new technology that could help PVCC's students become more involved. The presentation was based on his knowledge and understanding of the iPod usage. He started podcasting to try and capture the attention of disengaged students. PVCC uses it mostly for talk radio because they do a lot of interviews. The whole campus is involved. Break!all MCLI PodcastingAlan Levine (MCLI) But wait, there's more! See how the new video iPods can subscribe to content feeds of both audio and video. We are providing podcast feeds for the digital stories created by faculty in our Digital Storytelling LearnShops. Digital storytelling students at Phoenix College are also publishing their projects via podcasting. He presented new podcast called Photoshop Wednesday, which is available for free. It comes with a guide on how do things in Photoshop. He also used an audio recording called iRiver for under $99.00 (MP3 and recorder advanced $200.00). the recorder has an USB attachment to move files to your computer. Alan also shared more information about the Audacity software. Audacity is free and allows you to cut and paste sounds. Music can be overlapped in the audio. URLs mentioned in demo:
