 Electronic Portfolios at Maricopa
Electronic Portfolios or "ePortfolios" are becoming (or have become) a hot buzzword topic in education. Listening to the interest from Maricopa faculty, we convened an Electronic Portfolio Dialogue Day in October 2002. At that time, we saw a demonstration of a possible project of interest from the Eportfolioconsortium.
Following that, Vice Chancellor Ron Bleed offered to support Maricopa joining this consortium so we can explore its potential benefits to our faculty and students. We are currently in a testing mode with the epsilen system (our participation in this consortium is over as of December 2003).
But the electronic portfolio concept is just in its baby steps, and there are other things happening. Chandler-Gilbert Community College is developing a custom system that have programmed themselves (more information) and we are looking at setting up a test server here at mcli so others can explore. And furthermore, some interested persons are looking at weblogs as another possible platform for student portfolio activity.
Stay tuned to this area for updates and relevant resources. You can stay attuned and join our electronic dialogue by joining our eport listserv.
