 Weblogs for ePortfolios
Weblogs are personal publishing tools that have some features in common with electronic portfolios. One of the key characteristics of "blogs" are the reflective nature of what authors write and that its organizational structure is chronological, so it can record a process (more on blogs...).
The other feature of "blogs" is that the entire interface for editing is via any web browser, and the tools are very simple and intuitive to us. While using a blog for an electronic portfolio is possible, it would also call for some pre-designed structure and set of instructions. We include it here less so as a suggestion for using blogs as eportfolios, but to look at the features of blogs in terms of what kinds of functionalities might be worth carrying over to an eportfolio system.
In June of 2003, we provided an introduction to blogs for a faculty workshop, and the materials are available for this "blogshop" via:

Even if blogs are not appropriate for eportfolios, they are a fascinating technology for student publishing. We hope to have more of this discussion on our eportfolio listserv.
