Ocotillo's New Model

Since 1998 Ocotillo has purposefully been designed to have a fluid structure, to evolve with technology, and has gone through several structural changes since then (see Ocotillo's evoloution and the 1997 model of Ocotillo generations). Below we will outline the propsed new model for Ocotillo in 2004-2005 (see also a printable version of the model diagrams and descriptions [272k PDF]).

Current Ocotillo Model: (1997-2004)

Ocotillo was re-structured in 1997 from a group of topical oriented committees (by instructional technology topic) to a college-based structure, with Ocotillo Chairs as representatives from each local college teaching, tearning, and technology group.

In the current model, Ocotillo supports one faculty member ($, @3 hours per semester) as an Ocotillo College Chair from each college that represents the local campus groups or roundtables that plan and supports instructional technology (more on role of the college chair).

The Ocotillo General Faculty Chair ($, @6 hours per semester) works with MCLI to lead and support monthly meetings with the college Ocotillo Chairs. Activities include discussions of issues common to campuses, planning technology dialogue days, technology visioning forums, and the annual May Ocotillo retreat.

Ocotillo includes participation from and communication with the Deans of Instruction (DIs), Vice Chancellor for Instructional Technology (VCIT), and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA), as well as the Technology Leadership Council (TLC).

Other related groups include the Ocotillo Online Learning Group (OLG), offering monthly open events at the colleges, and is led by two college representatives (@ 1.5 hours per semester). The Ocotillo College Centers group is open to faculty and staff from the college teaching and learning centers, and it meets once per semester.

For 2004-2005, the new Ocotillo structure will focus on four "Action Groups," each led by a pair of Faculty Co-Chairs ($, @3 hours per semester) from any of the colleges. These groups will provide leadership, support, research & development, and recommendations related to the groupšs mission. Each group will plan its own series of activities for the year, which may include meetings, dialogue days, online collaboration etc. Updates will be provided to the Maricopa system via Ocotillo Spotlights, a September Virtual Kickoff event, a Fall Technology Showcase, and the May retreat. The Ocotillo General Faculty Chair ($, @6 hours per semester) provides leadership and coordination.

The colleges are encouraged to provide the name of a faculty College Connection (C) that will be an electronic contact for communication from Ocotillo to share with the college groups.

Ocotillo will still include participation from the Deans of Instruction (DIs), Vice Chancellor for Instructional Technology (VCIT), and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA), as well as be represented at the Technology Leadership Council.

Other related groups that will continue include the Ocotillo Online Learning Group (OLG), offering monthly open events at the colleges, and is led by two college representatives (@ 1.5 load hours per semester). The Ocotillo College Centers group is open to faculty and staff from the college teaching and learning centers, and it meets once per semester.
